Miley Cyrus Makes Her Hollywood Bowl Debut in True Rock and Roll Fashion

For her first ever performance at the iconic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Cyrus turned to celebrity hairstylist Bobby Eliot for the perfectly lived-in blonde hair to match.

Miley Cyrus’s Signature Rock and Roll Style

Miley Cyrus has always had a particular talent for making rock-and-roll glamour feel entirely her own. From her platinum blonde transformations to the voluminous, '80s-inspired hairstyles that have become part of her stage persona, the singer has never been one to shy away from a memorable beauty moment.

For her first ever performance at the Hollywood Bowl, Cyrus took a more relaxed approach. Wearing a black, sheer-sleeved mini dress with tights and boots, she stepped onto the stage with her signature blonde hair falling loosely around her shoulders. The look was unmistakably Miley, with just enough polish for the occasion and plenty of her familiar rock-star attitude.

Her hair, styled with a center part and loose, irregular waves, was especially well suited to the performance. Rather than the exaggerated volume and sculpted curls she has worn for previous appearances, Cyrus opted for something softer, allowing her natural texture to take the lead.

The man behind the look was celebrity hairstylist Bobby Eliot, who used Bio Ionic tools to create the singer’s deliberately undone finish.

Bobby Eliot on Creating Miley Cyrus’s Rock-and-Roll Hair

For Eliot, the inspiration was simple: the hair needed to look and feel like Miley.

“The inspiration for Miley’s show hair was lived-in, sexy, rock & roll,” Eliot explained. “I wanted it to feel like Miley and nothing overly done.”

Working with damp hair, Eliot began with the Bio Ionic AeroGravity Featherlight Dryer, ($299, Sephora) using its diffuser attachment to dry the lengths while allowing their natural texture to develop.

Once the hair was dry, he turned to the Bio Ionic 10X Flat Iron, ($262, Sephora) using the tool to bend sections in different directions and patterns. The technique created the loose, irregular movement seen throughout Cyrus’s blonde hair, rather than the defined curls of a more traditional stage hairstyle.

The result was a soft, slightly rumpled finish that worked particularly well with her all-black performance look. There was movement through the lengths, a little volume at the roots, and none of the rigidity that can come with more elaborate styling.

It was also a practical choice for the stage, where hair needs to move naturally with the performer. Eliot’s combination of diffused texture and subtle bends gave Cyrus a hairstyle that looked as good under the Hollywood Bowl’s stage lights as it did in the evening’s photographs.

For anyone recreating the look at home, the technique is relatively uncomplicated. Start with a diffuser to preserve natural texture, then use a flat iron to introduce a few loose bends, changing direction from section to section. The idea is to avoid making the hair look too uniform.

For Cyrus, whose beauty choices have always been closely tied to her musical identity, Eliot’s approach felt particularly appropriate. A little undone, a little rock-and-roll, and unmistakably Miley.
